• Major constituent of antibiotic complex made by Streptomyces hygroscopicus variable limoneus; [Merck Index] Used as narrow spectrum fungicide for potatoes, vegetables, rice, tobacco, cotton, and other crops; [HSDB]
• It is fungistatic against a narrow range of fungi and is used to control Pellicularia (Corticium) sasakii of rice at 45-90 g ai/hectare, black scurf of potatoes and damping off of vegetable seedings caused by Thanatephorus cucumeris (Rhizoctonia solani).
• Control of Rhizoctonia solani in potatoes, vegetables, rice, tobacco, and other crops, sheath blight of rice; damping off of cotton, etc. Applied as a foliar spray, soil drench, seed dressing, or by soil incorporation.
• Nonsystemic antibiotic with fungistatic action.
• Produced by Streptomyces variable limoneus.
• In animals, cleavage to glucose and an amine residue.
